QUICK ANSWER

What to do

Story Mode lasts 13 shifts, but the shift contents are randomly generated. Plan by milestones: establish a work loop, make verification routine, solve your operational bottleneck, build a safety margin, and enter the closing shifts ready to make deliberate choices. Completing Story unlocks the current Endless Mode beta.

You get
A 13-shift milestone plan that adapts to randomized events and prepares you for Endless Mode.
Scope
Full-release Story campaign at a strategic level. Exact customer schedules, purchase orders, ending conditions, and character outcomes are not part of this roadmap.

Why milestones work better than a night script

Story Mode has a fixed length of 13 shifts, but the contents are randomly generated. A rigid list of guaranteed customers or events can fail as soon as your run differs. Milestones measure useful capabilities instead.

Use calm periods for ordinary duties, slow down when information conflicts, and let survival outrank perfect efficiency when danger begins.

Shifts 1–4: build the method

During the opening shifts, learn the layout and establish a loop for stocking, deliveries, cleaning, serving, and investigation. Then turn customer verification into one repeatable process using observation, ID details, questions, and computer records.

Protect the early personal-profit objective without relying on a fixed universal purchase list.

  1. Learn the store layout and keep a clear route.
  2. Build one repeatable duty-and-customer loop.
  3. Use the same layered investigation order each time.
  4. Protect the current Story objective before optional spending.

Shifts 5–8: solve bottlenecks and create margin

Identify what is slowing or endangering the run. Improve stock flow if chores consume the shift, organize the movement between customer and computer if investigation is messy, or prepare defenses when your routes are fragile.

By the middle of Story, you should know what ordinary duty can be abandoned first when the situation changes.

Shifts 9–12: rehearse recovery

Expect store work and danger to compete for attention. Decide how you will secure approaches, keep movement lanes open, use temporary cover, and regain control before resuming objectives.

Enter the closing stretch with a reserve and a stable decision process. Story has multiple endings, so readiness matters even though exact ending routes belong on the dedicated page.

Shift 13: execute the routine

Use the method that carried the run this far. Verify uncertainty, protect survival, and make story decisions intentionally. Do not overhaul the entire workflow because another run reported a specific finale sequence.

The final shift is not the time to replace a proven routine with a brittle script.

After Story: Endless Mode

Completing Story unlocks the current Endless Mode beta, described as infinite-night play. It is already playable and continues to change. The 1 September update added Security Cameras, store-pet purchasing, restored patience, first-shift bear traps and planks, an extra purchasable bear trap, revised End Of Day Report fields, and disabled emails.

A separate major free Endless update is advertised for Q4 2026. That is an expansion of the mode, not its first availability, and no exact release day is stated. Check the updates page for the dated official changelog.

Common roadmap mistakes

Avoid following a named-customer calendar, buying from habit, treating speed as control, spending away all flexibility, or using this roadmap as an ending recipe. Measure whether your investigation, movement, recovery, and task order are improving.
